It’s more than a month since I set foot in Australia. It’s been a dream turned into reality. Everything is awesome and I can’t be thankful enough. Although my family, boyfriend and close friends are not here with me, I know that they can visit me anytime (
sympre depende sa budget).
So let’s see what happened to me for the first month. Just be warned, this could be a bit lengthy but I will make it short as possible.
I live with my close family friends in North Sydney until I get a job. The location is very close to the park and the church. If the weather is good, I go out for a walk/jog in the park and around the area. However, most of the days are rainy. I have a jinx with the rain every time I go out the country. It’s been my curse that somehow the rain follows me and as if they bid me a “Hello”. Hahaha! Imagine it was the wettest month in Sydney in 6 years!
Enough with the weather update; I started working on my resume. I need to look for a job to sustain my Aussie life. They have a website similar to our Jobstreet, which is
SEEK. Here are some tips I learned when applying for a job:
- Invest time in working on your resume. Highlight your achievements.
- Include a local number as your contact number. (I bought a local sim card at the airport)
- Make it short and simple. Maximum of 3 pages.
- Always include a cover letter.
I’ve sent around 10 resumes per week. I had interviews but as of writing I still don’t have a full time job. I have a part time job though near our place. I just go there once a week for 3 hours and he pays me in cash. That’ll do for the mean time; at least I can buy food and mobile load.
On my first month too, I was fortunate to experience
VIVID Sydney. It is a yearly event where they showcase Sydney CBD with awesome light show/display. This year, they tried a new one in Darling Harbour and its called Vivid Aquatic. It showcased a light show with synchronized fountain and sound effects and a fireworks display at 9pm. It was free for all that makes it more amazing! It’s similar with Singapore’s Songs by the Sea show as well as Disneyland California Adventure’s World of Color.
The most recent event I went to was the
Good Food & Wine Show in Darling Harbour. They showcased a lot of organic and healthy food plus special appearances of famous chefs as well as the people who joined Master Chef Australia. We had a great time trying out really good food. Healthy living now a day is a must! The average lifespan of human is decreasing so we better do something about it.
So far, those are what happened to me during my first month in Australia. I have so many places to discover, restaurants to dine in, so many things to learn and I’ve got a lot of time to do that. I’m so excited to see a new world ahead of me. I hope you join me as I see and find out famous and not so famous stuff here in Australia.
Do you want me to check out something here in Sydney?
Leave a comment, you’ll never know I might check it out in a couple of days!
